1% of Accessible Water is Clean!

If 70% of the Earth is water, how is only 2.5% fresh and drinkable? And only 1% of that clean water is even accessible due to water being trapped in icebergs and glaciers!

Us humans use so much water for things we don't need to do! Sometimes we could shorten that shower or reuse that cup or still-clean shirt. So many things use a lot of water that shouldn't need that much! But now, since we've used so much extra that we didn't need to, we don't have enough for drinking and other essentials!

There is so much salt water on Earth, and salt IS good for humans, but large amounts are bad. Since there's so much salt water, what if humans start using it for essential things, making everyone sick? 96% of water on Earth is salt water! There is a huge amount of it and people make bad decisions sometimes so it is definitely possible that people could start drinking salt water. Don't try it, though. It could make you very sick.

Some solutions I think we could do are following.

  • Water plants in the morning. The sun isn't up yet, so it can't evaporate much of the water. The plant will then be able to drink all of its water, so you don't have to use extra water.
  • Take shorter showers. Doing this will use much less water. 20% of showers are much longer than they need to be. You could definitely shorten that shower at least by five minutes.
  • Collect rain water. Whether you will clean it to drink or you will water your plants with it, it's good to have some extra water. If you are cleaning it then make sure to filter it AND boil it before drinking. And don't forget to let it cool!
  • Go to a lake and filter the water! You can take some of the filtered water back home, but some of it you can even just put back! The lake would technically be cleaner. And I don't mean clean the whole lake. A bucket at a time of course. You could also bring the water you filter to homeless, waterless people, as long as you boil it first.
Thanks for reading this blog post! I hope you keep this information in mind and maybe try some of the solutions. Don't forget to share my blog with your friends! It would be quite helpful. Together, we can change the world.
