There's Litter Everywhere!

Litter is an old problem. There are signs up everywhere telling us not to litter yet there's still litter everywhere. Everyone's seen litter in fields, on the side of the road, on nature trails, everywhere! Most litter is only 16 feet away from a trash can too! How hard is it to walk that far?

Clearly, they need to add more exclamation marks to the don't litter signs. Everyone listens to them. Keep reading this article!!! See? It worked.

Cleaning up after yourself and others is important. Keep nature natural and don't litter. If you have garbage, keep holding it until you find a garbage can. If you see litter on the ground, put on some gloves, pick it up, and find the nearest trash can.

Cigarette butts are everywhere. They're even in cracks in the sidewalk! Did you know that 50% of all litter are cigarette butts? They're small but mighty. Plus, who wants to pick up a cigarette butt? They're disgusting and third hand smoking comes from touching surfaces that someone's smoke has touched. So we leave them on the ground then, right? They take 5-10 years to decompose, and then it will leave toxins in the earth like arsenic and lead. So we can't leave them on the ground. But then how do we get rid of the 4.5 trillion cigarette butts that are dropped every year?

I wish we could put up more garbage cans on nature paths so then there will be less litter because people will be more likely to put it in the garbage can, but they would have to pay for each new garbage bin they set up, plus paths aren't a very convenient route for garbage trucks... Scratch that idea I guess. How else could we limit the litter on Earth?

  • First and foremost, don't litter! Don't be tempted by watching others do it, in fact, if you see someone drop garbage, tell them to pick it up and direct them to the nearest garbage bin. If they leave before they pick it up, throw it out then wash your hands, or put on a pair of gloves first.
  • Go on a litter walk. Wear some gloves and bring a garbage bag. Make it a game for kids. Walk along a path or river and pick up any litter you see. It's time to de-litter the Earth!
  • If you're eating out with someone, offer to take their garbage too when you are getting up to put your away. If they say no, then make sure they actually use the garbage.
  • If you smoke (which you shouldn't because it's extremely bad for you). Use. The. Garbage. No one wants to step on your cigarette butt, nor do they want to pick it up. Don't put it on the ground. It might seem like the easiest thing to do, but if you litter a cigarette butt, you are the ultimate litterer because no one is going to pick that up. Just stop littering.
Thank you so much for reading this article! Don't forget to do these solutions and share this articles with all your friends so that we can get this litter problem under control. Together, we can change the world.
